BvS : Dawn of Justice Decoded

On March 25, 2016 came the movie that everyone was waiting for: “Batman V Superman”. It did not really get positive reviews from the critics. A majority of critics just did not understand the movie. Did you not have butterflies in your stomach when you saw this scene? Did you guys not have an orgasm when this happened? Well, I did. I loved the whole movie. It was God vs The greatest Gladiator the world has seen. It was Son of Krypton vs Bat of Gotham.

The critics said that the movie is “humorless”, “too dark” and that “Batman is violent”.

They were expecting something that Marvel has been doing for a while, a bit of romance, a bit of comedy. I'm not saying that Marvel movies are bad. They are just as good. But DC and Marvel have different styles.

The critics probably did not like the movie because :

1. The heroes did not get beaten up and then they did not come back and won everyone's heart.
2. Heroes did not crack jokes and there were no one-liners.
3. No motivational speech or anything to bring the heroes together to fight for one cause and then make love in the end (not literally).

To answer some of the critics questions about Dawn of Justice :

Yes, Dawn of Justice was dark.

Batman is a deep and dark character. He's not Iron Man who'll crack jokes and just do random shit. No, he has gone through a lot. And what he is right now, is because of that. Not because of some experiment or anything.

Yes, Dawn of Justice was humorless.

Lex Luthor is not a villain. He is an anti-hero. He's a genius. Whatever he does, it has a meaning. Unlike Loki who just wanted to rule the world? They did not show us the real Lex Luthor. No, that's not a bad thing. They just introduced him to us. They are probably saving the real Lex Luthor for Justice League.

Yes, Dawn of Justice was not flashy.

Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, as they have shown us in the movie, she has been in the human world for thousands of years. She left the human world. She has seen everything, from fighting Doomsday (as we saw) to fighting Nazis. They showed us her past. And they'll introduce her in her solo movie.

Again, Marvel movies are not bad. DC and Marvel have different types of superheroes. They have different styles.

While Marvel heroes are a bit “weak”, DC superheroes have God-like powers.

While Marvel heroes are funny and they crack jokes, DC superheroes are dark and grim.

There are a lot of stupid reviews because the critics did not understand the movie, but trust me, there are not a lot of loopholes in the movie. Yes, Dawn of Justice is not perfect, but then no movie is perfect, is it?

To avoid spoilers skip everything in bold.

Critics got “confused” as to what exactly was happening during these scenes and called them dreams. Whoever did, he/she is not qualified to write a movie review. Or they should not write about superhero movies.

That's Metropolis after Darkseid invasion of Earth.
BvS : Dawn of Justice
These flies like creatures are not serving Superman. They are serving Darkseid.
What the critics called “dreams”, it was actually someone trying to warn Batman about Darkseid's invasion of earth (possibly from the future). They even showed The Flash (I'm sure the critics did not know that it was Flash), and he said: “I'm too soon”. This would mean, though, that Batman and The Flash will be interacting and likely factored into why Bruce Wayne told Diana Prince that they and all of the other heroes will have to come together.

Zack Snyder wanted Batman to get all the heroes together, and not Superman. With Superman , it’s like, Batman is just a guy although he beats Superman every time they have fought in the comics, something critics don't know.

The critics also said that Ben Affleck's Batman is the worst Batman. I pity those critics who don't know enough about the DC universe and think that they are “geeks” just because they have watched 'Man of Steel' and a couple of Marvel movies.

New York Post wrote,
“Ben Affleck unsuccessfully dons the Batsuit in bloated 'Batman v Superman'.”
GQ said,
“Batman v Superman will make you hate Batman, Superman, and The Justice League.”
And some other critics, who have no knowledge of these things wrote similar reviews. Just because you did not understand the movie, what Zack Snyder was showing you, that doesn't mean that the movie was “disappointing”.

Comicbook.com said,
“Best Batman till now”, “Zack Snyder brought a refreshingly serious tone to the often joke filled genre and made some bold storytelling choices.”
Now they know what they're talking about.

Believe me, this is the superhero movie every comic book fan aches for.
It's definitely worth a watch.

P.S.: If you're gonna comment and write a spoiler, please do write that it’s a spoiler. Don't ruin the movie for everyone, like some stupid people do by posting it on Social Media.

  1. *spoilers and spoilers alone. Avoid this.*

i'd disagree. The movie drops a number of references, sets up a base for all the sequels that are to follow, but as a movie, it failed.
I'm a comic book geek, and i love what they did, everything in it,Batfleck and Alfred, Wonder Woman, even Luthor tittering about instead of having his usually calm, collected and self righteous attitude (mostly because i think that will change when he comes back)
But really, pause for a second. Look at the amount of emotion the movie evokes in anyone. Its next to nil. There is a buildup to them meeting, but it doesn't get there. Is there any actual discussion between them about what they do and why they do it? No. Their interactions as characters was minimal, time constraints could be the reason but still.
Let's move on, dream sequences. Was it necessary to set up Darkseid like that? Eisenberg does a damn good job at mentioning it in his last lines. The dream was all for naught but to make Batfleck look paranoid, which is okay.
(Speaking of Eisenberg, did he really come up with logos for each character? Why would you do that??And he knows everyone who's gonna be in the Justice League?? Okay, not Shazam and Green Lantern, but still. )
The flash sequence could be argued as a cameo and can be passed off.
How about the bat nightmare? Completely unnecessary.
Superman's one single dream in which he talks to his dad can be forgiven, because its probably the first time he even comes close to seeming human and having thoughts, while all he does is give lines that seem plastic. Pass it off for being an alien, but he has been on Earth since his birth. Some emotion on a personal level would be nice.
And the final reason for both to stop fighting was almost so Bollywood, that i couldn't help but laugh. A common name. Ha. Does Wayne hire people by that same reasoning?
Again, it did well to set up the entire DC universe in two and a half hours. But what about the movie, as a standalone?
The amazing spiderman 2 could be argued for with the same points brought up, but how many will agree to it being a good movie? Not too many, I'd say.
To mention another mistake DC made, is to reduce the value of a character dying, because what was the point of the finale, really? We all know Superman's coming back .There was no shock value. None. Except for paying homage to one old story arc, which was good in its own right. So now its dark, brooding and people don't really die. Not the lead ones anyway.
    What're they brooding for?

    1. They just introduced Luthor. I know Luthor is not like this. But when he starts, he's like this in comics as well. The Real Luthor, yes, they're probably saving him for The Justice League.
Like i said, no movie is perfect, even this wasn't. There was hardly any interaction between the characters, I agree because of the time constraint. They could have made this movie in 2-3 parts, but then that wouldn't be a success at all. At least this was, not according to the critics though.
The dream sequences were necessary. Yes, Luthor did mention it. But if he mentioned it without the dream sequences, think, hardly anyone would have understood it. But if they included the deleted scene, then yes, maybe the dream sequence wasn't needed.
Luthor making logos for each character, yes I agree that was really stupid.
You're saying that there was no amout of emotion in the movie yet the scenes that did invoke emotion were unnecessary.
Superman has emotions. If he would have cried or said something totally emotional to his father, you would have said that its bollywood.
As far as the common name is considered, that has been there always. And they did not exactly stop fighting, Batman was still pissed at him and kind of fighting him till Lois Lane came and told him that it was his mother's name.
Yes, we all know that Superman will come back, obviously. He has died in comics as well. That time you did not have a problem? Zack Snyder took the Superman dying story from 1992 comic.
You did not understand the point of Superman dying. Everyone knows that Superman can obviously bring The Justice League together. But Batman? Now that should be interesting.
When they're trying to experiment, you're saying there's no point. When they were not trying, then again you had a problem.
I can't change your thinking about the movie. I don't even want to. Everyone has their own choice. I wrote this article for stupid critics who think that they know everything and people who did not understand the movie, and yes for people like you who thought that the movie was stupid. I did not write it to change your views about the movie.
